The route from the city of Valga, on Latvia’s border with Estonia, to Daugavpils, Latvia's second city, is about 660 km. By cycling EuroVelo 11, travellers can learn about Latvian heritage and cultural history, visit popular tourist sights and experience the daily lives of the local inhabitants. The route crosses several protected natural sites of European importance – national parks, scenic areas and a biosphere reserve. In the central region the route passes through the historical towns of Sigulda and Cēsis, two of the most beautiful towns in the country. About half of the route goes through the region of Latgale, famous for its lakes, including Lake Lubāns – the largest in the country.
