C‘est du gâteau! Locally-sourced picnics available for cycle tourists in France

Friday, July 5, 2019
If you already cycled in France, you might have heard of it: “lebonpicnic.com” is an online marketplace where you can order a delicious locally-made picnic when cycling through the French countryside. We think it is a great initiative that is highly compatible with the needs of cycle tourists.

The initiative already comprises 35 French food makers, including restaurants, butcher’s shops, bakeries and delicacy stores, and the trend is growing. Customers can order online up until 6 pm and pick up their freshly made picnic at the shop or restaurant on the day of their choice, starting the next day. The picnics cost about €10-€14 on average.

Customers will get 100% hand-made food based on personal and traditional recipes of the specific region, only using fresh, seasonal and local products. They will enjoy local specialities from local producers presented in eco-friendly and compostable packaging. The initiative responds to practical needs combining sustainable principles such as regional food consumption and short supply chains with the excellence in food the French are famous for.

The offer is currently available in Western France on La Loire à Vélo, La Vélo Francette, La Sarthe à Vélo, and the Véloscénie cycling routes. So if you are cycling along EuroVelo 1 – Atlantic Coast Route, EuroVelo 3 – Pilgrims Route, or EuroVelo 6 – Atlantic-Black Sea in France, do not hesitate to test this amazing offer. Bon appétit!
