Cycling-friendly labels: your allies for a smooth cycling trip!

Wednesday, February 25, 2026
Experienced cyclists may already be familiar with some cycling-friendly labels – or perhaps you have spotted one of their stickers at your favourite cycling café without knowing exactly what it means! What are cycling-friendly labels, and how can they make your cycling trip easier? In this article, we answer this question and guide you through our brand-new cycling-friendly labels page.

Cycling-friendly what?

Cycling-friendly labels are certification systems, usually set up by tourism organisations or cyclists’ associations, that guide cyclists towards service providers ready to meet their specific needs.

Some schemes focus exclusively on accommodation providers (such as Bett+Bike, Albergabici, Bike-friendly, etc), while others have a broader scope, also certifying restaurants, cafés, attraction sites, tour operators or tourism offices (for example Cyklisté vítáni in Czechia, Accueil Vélo in France, Fietsers Welkom! in the Netherlands, etc).

Spotting one of these label stickers on the door is a reassuring sign that both you and your bicycle will receive a warm welcome. Typically, certified services guarantee safe bicycle parking, the possibility of one-night stays, information on nearby cycling routes and maps, access to basic repair tools or guidance to local repair shops, and free charging for e-bike batteries. Many also offer additional cyclist-friendly services, such as facilities for drying wet clothing, luggage transfer, water bottle refills, packed lunches or hearty early breakfasts. In short, your cycle will not be left alone in the street – and your hosts will understand exactly what a cyclist needs.

There is a variety of systems, operating at different levels in Europe: transnational, national or regional. Each has its own criteria list that may slightly vary from to the other, but you can be sure that your most important needs will be met. All labels share the same motto: cyclists are welcome!

In 2025, the European Cyclists' Federation identified more than 20,800 certified businesses and 22,300 services part of cycling-friendly labels over 20 European countries. So there is surely a cycling-friendly service along your favourite EuroVelo route!

A brand-new webpage

How to find these services then?

We have just launched a new page for it! Take a look at the Services for cyclists page in the main menu, where you can easily access both the tour packages and the cycling-friendly labels. These new developments are made possible by two EU co-funded projects, Baltic Biking Upgrade and ICTr-CE, supporting the development of new cycling-friendly offers along respectively EuroVelo 10 – Baltic Sea Cycle Route and EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail.

On the cycling-friendly labels page, you will find a brand-new interactive map presenting cycling-friendly labels by country. Simply zoom in and click on the country of your choice: the labels operating there will appear in the panel on the left. Click on the label of your choice: you will see a detailed description, their geographical scope, nearby EuroVelo routes, and a direct link to their websites for further information. You can easily navigate back or explore another country – there are 28 labels listed!
