This stage starts in Trondheim with the famous cathedral Nidarosdomen. The route follows the west coast of Norway, crossing the Norwegian fjords. It goes on the Atlantic Ocean Road south of Kristiansund, a spectacular road that runs across isles and bridges out in the Atlantic Ocean. Make sure to stop in the beautiful city of Ålesund, built in Art Nouveau style. Between Ålesund and Bergen you will cross Sognefjorden, the longest fjord in Norway. And in Bergen, the end of EuroVelo 1 in Norway, you can visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Bryggen.
Note: This part of the route has a lot of tunnels and ferries. There is no ferry currently operating between Bergen and Aberdeen, but a new line will hopefully open between Bergen and Newcastle in 2026. In the meantime, you can either take the plane, or continue cycling along EuroVelo 12 - North Sea Cycle Route and take a ferry from Denmark to the UK (there are ferries from Esbjerg to Harwich).
