The route begins at the idyllic Egelsee, a lake nestled on the border between Mauren (Liechtenstein) and Feldkirch (Vorarlberg). It first winds past the historic old town of Feldkirch, where medieval walls and narrow alleys invite exploration. The path then leads through pristine riparian forests to the Illspitz, where the Ill River flows into the Rhine. Following the Alpine Rhine, breathtaking views of the Rhine Valley’s mountain landscape unfold before reaching the unspoiled Old Rhine – a precious ecosystem whose riparian forests and reed beds provide a habitat for numerous bird species, amphibians, and rare plants. In Lustenau, the route crosses the Alpine Rhine before reconnecting with Switzerland at Brugger Loch in Höchst.
